You can only discover how flavourful tea is when you put it in hot water
Pain is a unique lens
Things that were bright are muted
Greyscale becomes vibrant and beautiful
Pain strips away all the fluff
Revealing what is truly there
Some friends leave
Great friends stay
Trendy music holds no value
But God-centered music becomes a lifeline
Pain was not God’s plan
But He lets it chisel us
Into beautiful people
Purified in the inferno of our world
By the Master Potter
Until we emerge
In that glorious place
And our flavour is revealed.
The inspiration for this poem only shows up in two lines:
“Trendy music holds no value
But God-centered music becomes a lifeline”
These might feel pretty out of place amongst the rest of the prose, but they are actually the crux of why I wrote this. There have been several moments in my life when I've been struggling with something and found myself listening to secular music, and each time it becomes blatantly obvious just how empty that music is. It does nothing to lift the weight on my soul, and often serves to deepen my despair. On the other hand, there have been numerous times that a certain Christian song has started playing and totally changed my outlook on things for the better. I believe that God speaks through music, and music that honours Him often feels like a booming encouragement from above. It reminds me of truths that I had forgotten, and of the great hope of heaven. Christian music challenges me, convicts me, and leads me to repentance. It drops me to my knees before the Lord, and raises me up when I am downcast. Something that my ‘evening chill’ playlist can never hope to achieve.
