I am a canvas
Adorned with bright colour
Carefully planned
Perfectly painted
You are the artist
An expert with your brush
Taking joy
In painting
You love your artworks
Not because of their pictures
Nor their vibrance or detail
Their wear and tear does not make a difference to you
Their burnt edges are not off-putting
You love them because you created them
Because you poured a little bit of yourself into each one
I am a canvas
You take delight in me.
Context:
I used to often wonder how God could love me. What had I done to deserve it? Why did God love me when my life is filled with sin? I remember hearing a quote that finally answered this question for me, and it’s what this poem is based off:
“God loves you in the same way an artist loves his art. Not because you are perfect, but because he made you.”
“God loves you in the same way an artist loves his art. Not because you are perfect, but because he made you.”
