God is close to the broken-hearted
He draws near
Even when friends fail me
And grief consumes me
In my lowest lows
I am not alone.
He is my cornerstone
Enduring,
Unchanging
I can pour my heart out to You, O Lord
You will not let my prayer go unheard
You give relief to those who are honest before You
You give strength to those who lay their burdens at your holy feet.
You are my closest confidant
My loving Father
You will never fail me.
It’s easy to try and fill that God-sized hole that we all have with people. We want to be understood, to be heard, to be seen. But the reality is that the only one who can ever complete us is the one who created us. We are completely understood, always heard, and deeply seen by Him. I wrote this at a time in my life when I desperately needed to remind myself of this truth. I think my favourite line is:
“You give relief to those who are honest before You”
This has proven so true in my prayer. The more honest I am before the Lord, the more I feel the weight of my burdens lift. It’s often easy for me to present an ideal version of myself to God when I speak to Him, and I have to remind myself that He wants me to speak to Him as I am, so He can free me from those deep-set burdens that I try to cover up.
