Sometimes I like to stop
And enjoy the tea
Sit back and revel in the moment
Stretch out and smile
Be there
With others
Why am I running back and forth?
Straining for the horizon,
I miss the scenery in front of me
“There is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live
And find satisfaction in all their toil -
This is the gift of God.”
So I will tear my eyes from the horizon,
Stop,
And enjoy the tea.
Context
I wrote this after a very enjoyable early morning hot drink with some friends of mine. I remember sitting back, tea in hand, and just relishing the moment. I’ve found being truly present more and more difficult as life gets busier, and it seems my eyes are constantly fixed forward on the horizon. This poem is a reminder to myself that (cliché incoming) the journey is the destination.
